“Overcoating” - an Exhibition at MOCA Taipei
In this cross-border art project, we cooperate with the Spanish artist, Tavira, for the first time. Tavira has been painting and traveling around Europe, America and Asia for many years. Tavira’s works are full of powerful vivid colors and an unique composition style, just like those of Spanish art masters Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali. As an artist, Tavira’s keen observation of the society as well as her innate compassion and empathy bring the rich stories into her paintings which make her works brilliant as short novels.
We develop our design inspiration directly from Tavira’s paintings. Instead of distracting the visitors from the art works, we provide alternative ways to echo and strengthen the stories by allowing visitors to experience the scenarios through actual participation. The exhibition design is different from the traditional display by using various multimedia forms. For example, visitors can feel the two opposing roles in the painting by the process of “entering” the specially made glass booth; or "save" the painting from water in order to feel the despair state of mind which the artist tries to convey. We also integrate mapping projection and LED screens with artwork to show a little girl’s naivety and infinite vitality.
